FAA Incident # 20030108000909I
When it comes to light twins, the Cessna 310 has always been one of my favorites. Over the years I've seen some gorgeous examples. Then, there's N555MK. It's been sitting dormant in various tie-downs at KTPF since a gear up incident in January of 2003. You can read the narrative of that incident by clicking the FAA Incident # link above.
According to the Wikipedia entry on the Cessna 310 model, only 225 examples of the 310B were manufactured. It featured an upgraded instrument panel and Continental O-470-M engines. The 310B was a “straight-tail”. The swept tail variants didn't come until the next year when the 310C models were produced in 1959. Just a fun fact: The 310 sold for approximately $59,000 in 1959. In today's money, that's equivalent to $486,097.76!
I've heard some varying stories on the day N555MK had it's gear up landing. The incident report states only one person was on board but I've heard there was a passenger. Whatever the case, somebody made a mistake and left this gorgeous bird to sit. Obviously the engines would need a rebuild and probably some corrosion repair and new paint. Of course two new props are needed as those have been long removed. All of the interior is faded from being exposed to years of Florida sun. All of the avionics are still in place. From what I can see on the surface, this aircraft could be airworthy again with the right owner.
